LaRue II, a Canine Companions for Independence Hearing Dog, is a Hero!
LaRue saved Cynthia’s life and brought Cynthia back from isolation and desperation that surfaced as her hearing declined from hard of hearing to deaf. She brought Cynthia back to the outgoing person she used to be. Cynthia’s friends and family knew something was wrong, but had no idea how bad it really was. Thanks to LaRue, Cynthia sleeps at night for the first time ever, trusting LaRue to alert her to calls from the children, the smoke alarm, or other emergency. LaRue alerts Cynthia daily to the door, people calling her name, the phone, the timer, and much more. Cynthia now has the freedom to live again with a smile on her face and confidence in her heart. Most importantly, LaRue has made hearing loss visible. “You don’t look or act like you have a hearing loss” thoughts the public often shared are gone. Cynthia sits front and center today to watch her children on stage. Singing or playing a musical instrument, Cynthia listens through her eyes with LaRue by her side. LaRue is a Hero – a bridge to the hearing world. Together, LaRue and Cynthia today are helping others impacted by hearing loss – those with loss and their hearing family and friends. As a team, they advocate for hearing loss via presentations and hearing loss groups. LaRue through Canine Companions made it happen. Today and everyday LaRue helps Cynthia and others impacted by hearing loss!
