In preparation for Thanksgiving and all the food festivities soon to begin, I have a simple recipe for you to share with your dog and cat, I call this treat “Mr. Moore’s Turkey Pops”.
It’s a simple recipe to use up all those wonderful leftover turkey bones from your meal. Funny thing, I never really cooked for myself much until recently. Mr. Moore (KIM Hearing Dog) has been struggling with so many allergy and immune issues as he ages so, I have been researching many natural ways to heal animals from the inside out.
Here is a very simple and nutritious broth made from the leftover turkey bones. I like to add Gelatin, as it contains collagen, which is the building block of joint tissue. Here is a recipe that incorporates collagen and the anti-inflammatory effects of ginger and turmeric. This “treat” can be used between meals as a snack or added to their meals to give them a real yummy boost.
It’s great for arthritic dogs or cats too!

Turkey Bone Jello or “Mr. Moore’s Turkey Pops”
Ingredients:
- 4 cups cooked turkey bones
- 8 cups water
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder (If feeding to cats, remove the ginger from this recipe, they don’t really like it.)
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 cup celery
- 1/4 cup parsley
- 1/2 cup carrots
- 2 packets of Knox Gelatin
Directions:
Step I
- In a large pot, combine approx. 4 cups worth of cooked turkey bones with 8 cups of water.
- Add 1 teaspoon of sea salt, ½ tsp ginger powder, and 1 teaspoon turmeric to the pot.
- Then add ½ cup celery, ¼ cup parsley, and ½ cup carrots to the pot.
Step II
- Bring pot to a boil, and simmer for 1 hour.
- Then set aside to cool.
- When soup is cooled, skim off the fat on the surface of the pot.
Step III
- Remove bones and vegetables by straining, and simply save the broth. Remember NEVER give cooked bones to any animal. Be sure they can not get into your trash can either! & The veggies can be used as treats too.
- Pour liquid into a glass mixing bowl.
- Add 2 packets of Knox Gelatin and mix well.
- Pour the contents into your ice cube trays (Turkey pops) or small Tupperware container for future use.
Step IV
- Freeze half of the mixture (in ice cube trays ~ good for several months) and refrigerate the rest. The refrigerated portion should be used within 5 days.
- For dogs — Give one square (approx. 1 by 2 inches in size) or 1 tablespoon /per 25lbs of body weight twice daily. You can feed this as a snack or mixed into their food.
- For cats — Feed approx. 1 teaspoon twice daily mixed with their wet
